My Secret Confession
Marty Hamilton, 10 Jul 2005
Things were all going well in my life. I just started a new job, moved
into a great townhouse and started dating a beautiful girl. But then
my new boss Michael arrived. From his first day in the office, I knew
that we were not going to get on – he was just one of those
people that you get a feeling about from the moment you meet them. He
was an inconsiderate, immodest and just flat out rude person, who
obviously rated his own career advancement much higher than the
happiness of anyone in the office. It reached the point that he was
taking credit for work that I was doing, and it was doing him the world
of good in the boardroom - I was working 12hour days to get things
done, and he would fly in and take all the credit from me!

I decided that something had to be done, but couldn't bring myself to
go ahead with anything in the office as it could be traced back to me.
Then I met Michael's wife Vicki at a work function, and it all fell
into place. Michael always prided himself on enjoying life, and this
occasion was no different. He proceeded to have a few too many drinks,
and set himself up in a corner with one of the younger partners. Vicki
was sitting alone, doing all she could to look interested and hide her
boredom. I plucked up the courage to strike up a conversation with
her, which flowed very easily once we realised how much we had in
common.
We found that we shared some of the same friends, went out to similar
nightspots, and even that we went to the same gym. We decided to
coordinate our gym sessions from then on, and it was not long until we
were continuing our workouts into the bedroom. I tried to persuade
Vicki to be with me, almost as a further indignant move against
Michael, as I already had a girlfriend - but she declined. In the end,
she didn’t want to be with either of us. It took my intrusion
for her to realise that she had not wanted to be with Michael for quite
some time. Inevitably, Vicki told Michael that she was cheating on him,
but she never let on that it was with one of his staff, only that she
met me at the gym. When Michael took time off for stress leave, I
wasn't surprised that I was promoted to his position.

It is only now that I have found someone, I have realised what I have
done to Michael. Without me, Vicki and Michael might have continued on
to a successful marriage, given the time to work things out. To this
day I feel guilty about breaking up their marriage, and still am too
guilty to tell my new fiance what I have done. Some things are more
valuable than a promotion.
